Is the Shuffle on its way out?

It's soon time for Apple to release its annual shuffle of gadgets and, according to Ben Patterson is a technology writer for Yahoo! News, it might just be time for us to see the demise of the iPod shuffle.

At $50 the iPod shuffle is one of the cheapest gadgets that Apple makes. Now, if you are like me, I think it's a nifty little toy and perfect for those that don't want the higher priced MP3s, Nano Shuffle and many other music players. After all, how much music can you really listen too?

While nobody really knows, there has been a leak of a new gizmo that Apple will unveil, a tiny, tiny, product. Obviously the baby boomers with failing eyesight are not the target market.

There's also a fair amount of buzz surrounding a leaked squarish touch display that's just 1.7 inches across the diagonal (and you thought 3.5-inch touchscreens were small!), possibly signaling the arrival of a new little brother for the Touch.

So, would you miss the iPod shuffle? I would.

In a recent about face, Apple CEO Steve Job's held a press conference yesterday and said that Apple will provide the latest iPhone owners with a free case.

The issue arose because many people report dropped calls and connections issues with the new iPhone that was released just a few weeks ago. To make matters worse, Consumer Reports last week refused to endorse the new phone and said that it had antenna problems. They reported what many users have been saying for weeks: holding the iPhone in a certain way degrades signal reception.

Right up until yesterday Apple refused to acknowledge that there was any problem with the antenna, saying instead that all cell phones suffer from signal degradation when held in a certain way. Indeed, he spent most of the first 45 minutes of his press conference yesterday demonstrating reception problems with other manufacturers' phone.

So if you have a new iPhone, expect a free case courtesy of Apple.

STFU: Fly Your School Colors

Filed in archive Just For Fun on December 22, 2009

STFU: Fly Your School Colors
I'm not big on showing "school spirit." Or at least I'm not now that I've been out of school for quite some time. That being said, when I came across this STFU Car Flag at ThinkGeek, I simply could not resist talking about it here.

The STFU Car Flag is styled like so many university logos. It's got big letters, a year of founding (1337), a Trojan (gagged), and a Latin motto that translates to "stop talking now." Yup, that's a motto-and a lifestyle-that I can get behind.

Sanyo Diply Talk recorder has world's largest capacity

Sanyo Diply Talk recorder has world's largest capacity
Another sign that the world of mini and micro cassette recorders has again recently occurred as Sanyo's newest model boasts 1,000 hours of recording time.

Supposedly, that is a new record, all at about 8GB. The ICR-PS390RM, or Diply (might want to change the name before it comes to the states) has another great feature: password protect. A user has the option to password protect their recordings with a PIN number.

No word on the price or availability, but something tells me it might hit the Asian market first. My only evidence for that is the characters on the device itself.

Amp'd Mobile Shutting Down?
For those of you who used Amp'd Mobile as your service provider, you'd better find someone else. And quick!

The word from PhoneNews.com is that Amp'd Mobile will likely be shutting down on 24 July 2007. To make matters worse, according to the FAQ on the Amp'd Mobile site, customer service will be shutting down after 23 July 2007. That means if you don't want to lose your phone number, you'd better port it somewhere else pronto. PhoneNews.com is reporting customer service hold times are pretty bad.
